Have you heard of nerve flossing?
If you've ever heard me talking about "rocking and rolling" in stretching, here is why.
Nerve flossing or nerve gliding is a gentle movement technique used to help irritated nerves move more freely.
Nerves need to slide and adapt as we move.
When surrounding tissues are tight, inflamed or stressed, a nerve can feel stuck or sensitive.
This leads to sensations like pulling, tingling, burning or sharpness.
Nerve flossing uses slow controlled movements that gently, glide the nerve back and forth, rather than holding it on a stretch.
This helps to reduce nerve sensitivity, improve mobility, and calm the nervous system.
Unlike muscles stretching, nerve flossing is very gentle.
You may feel light tingling and an awareness, but it should not be painful or aggravating.
With nerves, more pressure and force is not better.
If you are interested in integrating some nerve gliding techniques into your routine, ask me during your next appointment and we can find something appropriate for you.
