Hello friends,
When I say I am studying an advanced diploma in Myotherapy, people automatically think I am only talking about myofascial release.
...but what actually is myofascial release?
Myofascial release is one technique under the umbrella of myotherapy.
Myotherapy includes many massage techniques (hands on), dry needling, electro dry needling, TENS, cupping, gua sha, vibration therapies, mobilisations, and more!
Myofascial release is a style of manual therapy that aims to soften, lengthen and rehydrate fascial tissues, increasing range of motion to normal, and reducing pain.
Overall it is designed to improve tissue health and function.
The technique targets fascial trains throughout the body, rather than focussing on a specific muscle or trigger point.
Myofascial release techniques usually use little to no oil, intentionally so that they can rely on friction; the pull and drag from the practitioner's hand over the skin of the client's body.
The pressure from myofascial techniques is deliberately not compressive or penetrative, but rather it stretches and drags the layers of tissue being targeted.
Was that a helpful explanation?
Do you have more questions about any of what I've tried to describe?
Email me back, I'd love to know what you think!
