Relaxation massage is therapeutic

I often hear people say they want a massage that “does something” — which usually means deep pressure or lots of focus on problem areas.
But here’s the truth: a relaxing massage is therapeutic.
When your body relaxes, your nervous system shifts out of “fight or flight” mode and into “rest and digest.” This is when healing, recovery, and repair actually happen.
Gentle, rhythmic massage lowers stress hormones, improves circulation, eases muscle tone, and helps regulate breathing and heart rate.
From my personal experience, in early 2024 during recovery from pneumonia and a couple of mosquito borne viruses (yes, all at once!), my heart rate remained elevated for a few months, but each time I received a massage it dropped and remained lower (at a new baseline) by about 5 beats a minute.
Yes, 5 beats is a lot, but also yes my resting heart rate skyrocketed with those illnesses.
So even without deep pressure, a relaxation massage supports your body’s natural ability to reset and restore. You’ll walk away feeling calm, lighter, with less pain — not because of force, but because your body has been given space to unwind.
If you’ve been pushing through stress or feeling run-down, this might be the perfect time to book a slower, nurturing session. Sometimes, the most powerful therapy is simply allowing yourself to relax.
