Have you heard the myth that massage is not safe in the first trimester of pregnancy?
If you haven't, then I am glad.
If you have, I want to discuss why that's a myth.
Massage is safe throughout all trimesters of pregnancy, when performed intelligently by a trained therapist.
The main reason for the myth that it is not safe, is to avoid accusations.
There are many things that can happen in the early stages of pregnancy, and when combined with misconceptions around massage, it can lead to potential blame.
I want to ask you to think of safety of a massage like this-
If you're pregnant, would you stop and think for a second that getting a soothing head rub or a foot massage from your partner would be dangerous?
But would you get a massage to your abdomen? No!
It's about adjusting positioning, techniques, and areas of application, to make the massage safe and comfortable throughout the pregnancy.
People even get massages before they've found out they are pregnant sometimes.
I want to make sure you know it's totally safe to receive a massage during all stages of pregnancy, but you must let your therapist know that you are, because some things might need to be considered and adapted.
