Do you get migraines?
Do you know what the prodrome and postdrome are?
Recently I had a really bloody bad migraine for the first time in a few months, and it inspired me to deliver a bit of information on the topic.
Migraine is not just a headache...
It is so much more.
I felt pain everywhere.
Starving but nauseas.
Too fatigued to chew.
I couldn't see my fingers.
Couldn't remember what I was doing.
Migraine prodrome is the hours or days lead up to your migraine.
Here is you might begin to notice changes in mood, sense perception, cognition, energy, pain, digestion.
The aura is the 5-60 minutes before the full onset of the attack.
Many people notice changes in their vision, comprehension, dizziness, weakness.
At this stage if you notice the migraine is coming and are able to medicate, you can usually minimise the severity of the attack.
Migraine attack/headache attack is the full peak of the migraine, lasting minutes to hours.
Pain and symptoms are at their worst.
In severe cases, people may lose consciousness.
You might vomit.
Pain and fatigue is a whole body experience.
Most sensations hurt.
The postdrome is that awful migraine hangover feeling that lasts a couple of days after the peak of the migraine attack.
Symptoms include lingering tension, fatigue, weakness, brain fog, sensory sensitivity, and low mood.
Migraine is not just a headache, migraine has impact on neurological and sensory systems, your mood and cognition, and your physical and autonomic systems.
I made these cute little slides below and posted them on instagram.
You can view them there now too.
