Dry Needling- electrical reset

I have never been excellent at wording how dry needling works when people ask me, and then I've read recently, phrased easily to understand.

One of the (several) ways that dry needling is working is by eliciting a local twitch response to the muscles that disrupts the abnormal electrical signalling to the muscles (if you consider that all our body is powered by electricity/energy) and helps to "reset" it.

Imagine how heart arrhythmia is caused sometimes by electrical signalling problems with the heart, and then when a patient is zapped with a defibrillator, it can restore normal heart rhythm...

Well it's a bit like that on a less dramatic scale.

The insertion of the needle, and especially the twitch response, is changing the electrical impulse within the muscle from being one that causes pain and tension, back to regular programming and appropriate function.

I hope that was a useful explanation!

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, and if you're interested we can include dry needling at your next appointment :)
